Rich Goodwin is the prime example of developing talent at Scruff of the Neck, taking his journey from designing posters as an intern to promoting a sold out show at the o2 Academy in Sheffield with The Reytons.
At the start of 2018, Rich joined Scruff of the Neck as a fresh-faced second year graphic design student. He was eager to get involved in the music industry after successfully running a hometown village music festival for 3 years.
His initial role was as a design intern, responsible for designing posters for Scruff of the Neck shows spanning the length and breadth of the country.
Becoming a Promoter
After regularly working as a rep at Scruff of the Neck shows, his role soon evolved into promoting gigs in his adopted hometown of Sheffield.
Arguably, his experience designing posters gave him the knowledge of grassroots bands and venues to help him transition to the exciting world of live promotions.
Quickly immersed within the scene, Rich began to bond with local bands and industry who all shared a common goal. He wanted to provide a top platform for great music in Sheffield; a city considered by some as one of the true homes of indie music.
While it may not be able to compete with Manchester on scale, Rich can more than vouch for the fact that it definitely matches it for drive and passion.
Stepping into Management
Just 14 months ago a milestone change came to Rich’s ever evolving job. A bunch of lads from South Yorkshire welcomed Rich into their family with open arms.
Over the last year or so, Sheffield based ‘The Reytons’ allowed Rich to grow from being a part-time promoter and student, to making music his life by becoming part of their management team.
And after a lot of hard work and determination, on Saturday 19th October, The Reytons played their sold out headline at the O2 Academy Sheffield to over 2000 supporters, with Rich watching in the wings.
